Most of us don’t join advocacy organizations for the concrete benefits — though we have many: CSWA members enjoy access to our monthly Town Hall meetings, where a national community of clinical social workers connects directly with our Director of Policy and Practice, Laura Groshong, to create meaningful and impactful community; timely, actionable updates on key issues affecting our field, free consultation with experts, access to our members-only listserv, discounts on our continuing education courses, and reduced pricing for the Clinical Social Work Journal.
But let’s be honest — that’s not why most people join.
People join because they know that when their days are filled with caring for clients, managing paperwork, pursuing continuing education, and trying to stay afloat in an ever-changing system, someone needs to be watching the bigger picture.
That’s where CSWA comes in.
We advocate on your behalf — tracking legislation, advising policymakers, and ensuring that clinical social work remains respected and on par with other professions. We speak up when new technologies like AI emerge, ensuring ethical and equitable integration into our field, and speak out when policy makers create policies that harm our practices and our clients. We collaborate with other organizations and hold them accountable to make decisions that serve our clients and our communities.

The Clinical Social Work Association is an individual membership association and 501c6 nonprofit organization that protects the interests of Clinical Social Workers at the national level. Annual Membership Dues: $150 (increasing to $175 mid-December)
- Must have a Masters or Doctoral degree from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
- Individual is currently engaged in social work practice.
Annual Membership Dues: $25 (increasing to $35 mid-December)
- Must meet the requirements for General membership.
- Individual is retired or retiring, and/or works 20 hours or less per month in the field of clinical social work.
Annual Membership Dues: $75
- Must be a new graduate of a Masters of Social Work program from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
- Membership in this category will begin from the date of graduation and continue for no more than four (4) years.
Annual Membership Dues: $150 (increasing to $175 mid-December)
- Must be a Masters level mental health professional.
Annual Membership Dues: $75 (increasing to $100 mid-December)
- Must meet the requirements for General membership but also hold membership with a CSWA affiliated society. Memberships with other social work associations do not apply. Please check to make sure your organization is on the list of affiliated societies before registering for membership using this category.
- Please note that CSWA and the affiliated societies are different organizations, and individuals must obtain a membership for each in order to hold membership with both.
Annual Membership Dues: $25
- Available to any student currently enrolled in a masters or doctoral degree program in a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
