The election of President Trump and the major shifts that have occurred in the life of our country have challenged LCSWs in ways that we have never experienced before.  We hear our clients express a new level of anxiety about the direction of our country.  Our ability to conceptualize how the President’s executive actions have taken away rights that we have taken for granted is a major problem for many LCSWs. So has overcoming the helplessness that many feel as social workers who see our work and values as demeaned and attacked.

CSWA is here for you in these difficult times! Join us in making sense out of our feelings and our clients around the challenging decisions of the Trump administration through webinars, state society presentations, and conference calls.

Webinars

Presenter: Laura Groshong, LICSW, CSWA Director of Policy and Practice

CSWA is offering webinars that will provide LCSWs with assistance in the following ways:

  • Review the ways that executive actions have affected LCSWs’ civil rights (immigration, religious and ethnic respect) and mental health (failure to support mental health parity)
  • Political issues that LCSWs need to resolve to remain emotionally centered (maintain our own beliefs while respecting those of others)
  • Helping us help our clients with anxiety and depression about the country’s direction (share examples of patients who feel anxious about the loss of respect and empathy that the Trump administration seems to support)
  • Ways for LCSWs to engage in advocacy (detailed list of agencies and organizations that need our help)

Webinars will be held: February 22 at 3:00 p.m. PST/6:00 p.m. EST and March 2 at 12:00 p.m. PST/3:00 p.m. EST

Webinars are FREE to CSWA members/$50 for non-members.  Once registered you will receive an email with webinar log on instructions.

Conference Calls

CSWA will provide a conference line to have hour-long group discussions of up to 10 people each to discuss the issues outlined above and other concerns of members to offer support and guidance, facilitated by a CSWA Board member.  Dates and times will be announced shortly.
